(2) DOS (or more accurately command mode) works too. Just tried both methods myself with a SATA. Also tonight I used a Linux live CD to clone a XP pro onto a SATA drive. In order to make it bootable I restored the MBR by booting to DOS (version ) first and typed fdisk /mbr. So DOS can even writes booting code on a SATA too. To do this, you need a DOS CD Driver, and www.doorway.ru to set a Drive Letter. I tried www.doorway.ru from www.doorway.ru: ODD DOS driver which is an new open source CD driver that apparently supports SATA drives, but it doesnt work. The PC has an Intel Chipset (ICH8 I think) and is using the onboard SATA Controller, with a generic SATA ODD. Baud. Baud. Where can I get a driver that would be recognized by MS-DOS ? Well, I for one have not attempted to read a DVD disk in DOS. My current drives are SATA. Does anybody know where i can find a boot disc or even just a SATA driver so i can boot to DOS Prompt. I tried booting with a Windows 98SE. 4 Sept Freedos driver not working - no Sata controller found and vanilla Windows 98 do not If exist virtual cd rom for dos, i can use it too.
